21A: Reading Reflection No. 2

Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Peter Drucker

1) The main focus of this book is the actions and behaviors of entrepreneurs. It talked about the connection between entrepreneurs and innovation with a focus on discipline. It was all about the practice of these two aspects and the strategies used by a typical entrepreneur.

2) It helped with the explanation of mindset and strategic ideas of an entrepreneur. I have always felt that staring a business or being an entrepreneur started off with the right mind set and this book backed that thought up. It focused in on the specific actions of entrepreneur that made them successful or not successful.

3) A great exercise would be pointing out the connections between entrepreneurs and innovation.

4) I was surprised by one quote specifically:
"The companies that refused to make hard choices, or refused to admit that anything much was happening, fared badly. If they survive, it is only because their respective governments will not let them go under."
This quote threw me off because he is making it seem all about the government primarily deciding if a business thrives or not. I found that interesting because I always though about it more like if you are providing at service in the right place, at the right time, and with passion anyone can make it work.

  1. Jaclyn,
Although I chose another book, this was a very interesting read. Innovation is a very important aspect to being an entrepreneur so I know that this book must have given a lot of insight about how the two work. I can tell you received some knowledge on the book and I hope you apply it to your everyday life. Overall, great job!

  2. Jaclyn, I did not choose this same book, but just based off your answers, it must have been beneficial. A big part of entrepreneurship is innovation and the way things are constantly getting bigger and better. This requires us to adapt even quicker and also must learn how to set it up as a business or product. With this course being about growing our ideas, I bet this book gave more insight on it.
